NOTE: MEASURE YOUR RECESS BEFORE YOU ORDER
Face Fixed:
When there is no recessed area provided for a screen the grille is simply fitted to the face of the window frame either internally or externally by drilling through the frame of the window surround, and screwing or riveting in place. Great care must be given to not interfere with the operation of the window’s action, E.g. Window spirals etc.
Recess Fixed:
Our standard window grille frame is 11 mm thick at the outer wall. This is so they may be fitted into the same recess on a window as a screen. They can then be fixed in place by riveting or screwing to the window recess either internally or externally. As there are a large variety of window extrusions a decision has to be made by the person installing the screen.
1. How to measure an existing screen
If you have existing screens and they are a good fit, then the easiest way to measure for new ones is to remeasure your old ones, ensure that you measure the recess width and advise us if it varies from the industry standard width of 11 mm.
Notes: Do not take measurements from the centre in case the screen is bowed.
Screen Width: Measure from the outer edge of the frame top and bottom, record the smallest measurement. Note: There should be maximum of 3 mm variation in the two lengths, if the variation is greater contact us to discuss solutions 02 82832832.
Screen Height: Measure the height left and right, record the smallest measurement.
2. How to measure for a new screen (face fixed)
Note: The safest method of measuring is to fit the screen to the face of the window and this is sometimes the only option. You would then drill through the frame of the window surround, and screw or rivet in place.
Screen Width: Measure the recess top and bottom, record the smallest measurement.
Screen Height: Measure the height left and right, record the smallest measurement.
3. How to measure for a new screen (recess fixed):
Screen Width: Measure inside recess of windows where screen will be located, top and bottom then deduct 2-3 mm to allow fitting clearance and record the smallest measurement.
Screen Height: Measure inside recess of windows where screen will be located, left and right then deduct 2-3 mm to allow fitting clearance and record the smallest measurement.
Recess Width: Using a solid ruler measure the width of your recess, advise us when placing your order if your recess width is other than 11 mm.
Recess Depth: Using a solid ruler measure the depth of your recess, advise us when placing your order if your recess depth is other than 11 mm.
Our back roll option means that your fabric will sit behind the roller tube, just like in all of our images. We set this as our default option because it offers the best protection to our lovely fabrics. It means that the front of the fabric never gets exposed to direct sunlight, keeping it in pristine condition for years and years.
Alternatively, you can choose to have your roller blind front roll. This is usually an aesthetic choice. It means the roller tube will sit behind the fabric, covering more of the components and allowing you to see even more of our lovely colours, textures and patterns. Please be aware though that this option means the front of the fabric will be exposed more often to direct sunlight (any time the blind is not fully down, in fact). Over time this could lead to bleaching of your lovely roller blind. As such, if you have a north facing or exposed window, please think carefully before selecting this option.
When making your blind, we will make a small deduction from the width that you have entered. Don’t worry though, this is just to ensure your blind fits properly and works perfectly within the recess.
When measuring for your new blind, decide how much you want it to overlap the recess on all 4 sides. We recommend that the blind overlaps the window recess by at least 70mm at the top and 50mm each side. The overlap at the bottom of the blind is a matter of personal choice but if you are measuring for a blind that will come down to the floor allow 10-20mm of clearance.
If you already have a perfectly sized blind and you’d like your new blind to be exactly the same, that’s no problem. Simply measure the width and the drop of your existing blind and we’ll make your new one to your exact specifications. (Please remember to have your blind fully down when measuring the drop.)
